Putting Government on the Side of Farm Families
In the 6th Congressional District, agriculture is a billion dollar industry. But if we're not careful, we run the risk of someday becoming as dependent on foreign food as we currently are on foreign oil. That's why I support policies that expand markets for our farmers, reduce their energy costs, increase their water supply and assure the future vitality of our land and our family farms. I am strongly opposed to the Cap and Trade Bill and will work to ensure its defeat in Congress.
New advances in technology and globalization of markets have altered how the family farm interacts with the world. Farmers and ranchers in the 6th District need access to markets to sell their products and a strong labor force to produce them. New generations should have the opportunity to continue the legacy of their family’s farm without additional taxes and government interference. Family farms must be allowed to be passed to children without the threat of being taxed out of existence by burdensome federal death taxes. Access to affordable services and healthcare close to home is key to those looking to stay on the farm or in small Tennessee towns. I am committed to revitalizing our rural communities.
