Defending Our Nation and Supporting Those Who Serve

I do not believe there is a higher purpose for the federal government than defending our nation, vigorously and without apology. As a member of Congress, I will not sit quietly waiting to take my marching orders from Nancy Pelosi and the radical left. I will stand up for our men and women in uniform and in civilian agencies who are defending us every day.

The alarming direction President Obama is taking the nation’s economy is rivaled only by the direction he is taking our national security. From his stated pledge to negotiate with terrorist nations without preconditions, to his ill-advised rush to close the Guantánamo Bay detention center to his decision to weaken our commitment to ballistic missile defense, Americans are watching with concern.

Americans never thought the day would come where a President of the United States would stand on foreign soil and apologize for American “arrogance.”

The transfer of terrorists to American facilities and the proposal to give them rights in our judicial system is unacceptable. Closing Guantánamo Bay to satisfy a campaign promise is not sound policy and is not in the best interest of the United States.

Our service members deserve the best equipment and resources if they are to complete their mission. I will never compromise their safety. In his budget proposal, the president advocates reducing our defense spending to pre-Vietnam era levels as a percentage of our gross domestic product. He appears unwilling to listen to the military professionals, our commitment to the defense of Israel seems in question and Iran continues its drive toward nuclear capability without threat of consequences.

The political decision by the Attorney General to pursue prosecutions of CIA officials is bad policy and bad precedent. Criminalizing political differences happens in third world countries, not in America. I will always stand with those who perform bravely in the defense of our nation.

American forces must always remain under American command. I will never accept the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court over Americans. Standing with our military and veterans is a duty for all Americans.

Primary Issues

  • Spending and the Expansion of Government - Federal government spending has gotten out of control and as a result we are saddling our children and future generations with unsustainable amounts of debt.
  • Healthcare - The U.S healthcare system is the best in the world, and it is vital that we not only continue to keep it the best but work to increase access to it so every American can receive the care they need.
  • Energy Independence & Our Environment - The taxes and radical environmental policies of the Democratic leadership are breaking the backs of working families and the businesses that employee them.
