Responsible Energy Policy That Preserves Our Resources
Tennesseans understand that our economy is dependent on affordable and abundant energy. In order to have that energy, we need an "all of the above" strategy, including oil, natural gas, clean coal, wind, solar, and nuclear power.
America has vast reserves of untapped energy supplies. Liberal refusal to unleash these resources holds back our nation and will result in higher energy costs, continue our dependency on foreign sources and kill domestic employment. I support developing our domestic resources in order to increase our economic and political security. Americans would benefit, not OPEC.
While I support the development of alternative and renewable energy I believe the free market should dictate how and when these sources are brought to market, not the heavy hand of the government. As we develop new and renewable energy resources, relying on domestic supplies of energy rather than depending on oil from overseas is critical. Utilizing our current supply of energy will allow for affordable energy in the interim as new technologies begin to emerge.
I strongly oppose the effort to raise home and business energy taxes (Cap & Trade) that will, according to White House estimates, raise the cost the average family by $1,761 per year.
This is not only an economic issue - it’s a national security issue. American dependence on imported foreign oil has increased close to 20% over the last 10 years. That means close to 60% of our oil is imported.
Unleashing American innovation, to encourage private sector solutions to energy efficiency will create jobs and move America forward. We should also use more of an energy source right here at home, nuclear energy. It doesn’t produce an ounce of carbon dioxide, and it is safe.
