An End to Illegal Immigration and Promoting True Border Security
There are 12-20 million illegal immigrants in America because we accommodate and reward their illegal behavior. In order to stop the flow of illegal immigrants, we must strengthen our borders through increasing border agents, building additional fences, and utilizing technology to monitor our borders. We can no longer ignore the gaping holes that exist along our border. It is a matter of vital national security and, in Congress, it will be my priority to make sure Tennesseans and all Americans remain safe and secure. I am opposed to granting amnesty, social security and other benefits to those who break the law to get here.
We must uphold the rule of law and protect our national sovereignty. I support English as the official language of our nation. I support E-Verify, which provides an internet source for employers to confirm an applicant for a job is in our country legally. I am opposed to Bart Gordon’s vote to defund E-Verify and his vote in the stimulus bill to cut funding to our sheriff and police departments.
I do not support giving illegal immigrants government-issued identification. Driver’s licenses are not a right. They are a privilege and those who break our federal law by coming here have not earned that privilege.
Once we secure the border and enforce the law, we can move to fix our broken immigration system. We must reform the process for the 1.5 million people waiting in line legally, for citizenship, while making the background checks stronger and more efficient. We must also ensure temporary workers, and students with visas, return home after their legal time here has expired.
In Congress, I will work to give all employers access to reliable tools that allow them to determine a potential employee’s legal status instantaneously but also impose real penalties to those who break the law. We have the technology to do so, we only need the will.
