Spending and the Expansion of Government
By any standard, federal government spending is out of control and as a result we are saddling our children, grandchildren and future generations with unsustainable amounts of debt. The federal government spends $1 billion every four hours. This spending increases our national debt by $1 million a minute.
In July 2009, President Obama’s budget created a deficit that topped $1 trillion for the first time in our nation’s history. Our nation’s debt stands near $11.5 trillion – another record for Washington. We now make national security and policy with an eye toward the largest holder of United States debt… China.
I support repealing the 2009 Stimulus Bill and amending the Budget Bill, including the thousands of earmarks. I oppose cutting funding to Medicare and to our police and sheriff departments, while funding over $8 billion to ACORN and community organizers.
I support legislation that would prohibit earmarks. Not only does Congress need to read all bills, but each bill needs to be placed on the internet with the names of all involved in writing the bill. I support a mandatory Sunset Clause in all spending legislation. The federal government operates too many duplicative and wasteful spending programs. The federal government should not use taxpayer dollars to compete with any private business. I support GAO audits and complete transparency of the Federal Reserve.
As I travel the 6th District, I am continually inspired by the work ethic of Tennesseans. In Congress, I will honor your work ethic and individual achievement by working my hardest to reduce spending and slow the growth of a bloated federal bureaucracy.
