MURFREESBORO, TN - Sixth District Congressional Candidate Lou Ann Zelenik, today condemned Congressman Bart Gordon's refusal to support the removal of Representative Charles Rangel (D-NY) as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee following revelations of Rangel's failure to pay a reported $1.3 million in taxes.
"As chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Congressman Rangel has the ability to force the Obama/Pelosi high tax agenda on the working families of Middle Tennessee. It is reasonable for Americans to expect Rangel to pay the taxes he owes if he wants to impose higher taxes on us," Zelenik said. "Bart Gordon's vote to allow Mr. Rangel to keep his Chairmanship proves, once again, that he is in the pocket of the liberal Congressional leadership."
Yesterday Congressman Gordon voted against the removal of Rangel as called for in a resolution by Congressman John Carter (R-TX), allowing Rangel to continue in his position as chairman.
Zelenik commented on the message the vote sends by stating, "With Americans' trust in the Congress nearing record lows, refusing to take action shows Bart Gordon is more interested in cozying up to the corrupt liberal leadership in the House than doing the right thing for Tennessee. He should reconsider his position and allow the House to conduct itself with the integrity we expect. Tennesseans need a congressman who works for us, not for Mr. Rangel."
