Murfreesboro—Sixth District Congressional candidate Lou Ann Zelenik has issued a statement in reaction to the announcement by President Obama today concerning his proposed healthcare overhaul:
"President Obama has today made it clear that he either cannot,
or will not, listen to the American people when it comes to deciding
the future of their healthcare in America. He has simply reiterated his
commitment to raise our national debt by 1 trillion dollars, taxes on
small businesses and average Americans by 500 billion dollars, impose
unconstitutional mandates on our citizens, and give control for life
and death decisions to beauracrats in Washington.
Now the eyes of
the people must be focused on the House Of Representatives. Will they
do the bidding of Nancy Pelosi and Mr. Obama, or will they finally hear
the voice of the people. I urge everyone to contact their
Representative, and their Senators, and let them know that we do not
want to socialize 1/6 of the American economy, and take away our
freedom to make our own medical decisions. Rationing and the open
possibility of federal funding of abortions are still very real parts
of this plan. That is simply unacceptable."
Zelenik, a Murfreesboro businesswoman, is a former Chair of the Rutherford County Republican Party, and has been a key organizer of the local Tea Party movement. She is campaigning for the GOP nomination which will be held in August.
